Drama Review: Eternal Love of Dream
Story: 4/5
I watched this back in 2020 so my review will be short and snappy.
The story itself overall is different from Eternal Love (2017). So in this drama there are three arcs:
1 . Heaven Realm - Though this was at the beginning of the drama and it was a very slow paced arc. I liked it very much because this time Fengjiu is in her true form the Red Fox Animal form. I love the fact that they filmed her in her own little conscious mind while she was a fox. In this arc Fengjiu was able to show her love and repay her kindness the best way that she could. Of course Siming (my personally favorite Cupid) was there to watch it all happen in Fengju’s POV. After everything happened, eventually Fengjiu gives up and goes back home. This showed all of the points from start to finish in this arc. So A+.
2. Mortal Realm - Although I don’t remember much from this arc not saying I didn’t enjoy it. Here we go again Fengjiu repaying Donghua’s kindness she goes into the mortal realm. This realm was short and snappy and that was how i liked it. The general of Donghua’s mortal played an excellent role and had a great story line with both of the characters. This also started from start and finished. No questions to be waviered.
3. Fanyin Valley/A’Lanruo’s Dream
I loved Fanying Valley arc but I disliked A’Lanruo’s Dream.
Fanyin Valley was great overall. These were the best moments between Fengjiu and Donghua’s. He taught her how to train for the competition and as well as care fo her as her master. After he learned why Fengjiu wanted to win the fruit so bad and found out that Fengjiu risked her life to obtain an additional fruit that was guarded by the 4 pythons. I really loved it when Liam Song explained to Donghua why she wanted the fruit and Donghua regretted his actions. In conclusion he destroyed 90% of his cultivation in order to bring her back.
A’Lanruo’s Dream I didn’t like it at all besides the parts of when Donghua’s actual self and Fengjiu’s spirit in A’Lanruo’s body interacted. Their development increased and you were able to see their love and interest for each other. The other two shadows of both of them, I didn’t find it intersting that much, I kind of felt that they didn’t know how to connect them all together to make it make sense. This dream arc is 1/3 of the episodes but was horrible because it was the middle to the ending. Negative for this arc but Positive for Fanyin Valley.
Casting: 5/5 & Character Development: 4/5
The casting of course was changed for the supporting roles. I really loved all of the characters.
One of the most memorable characters were Chenyu. I really liked the actress that played her in this version. In Eternal Love her character wasn't realy standing out compared to this drama. (Maybe because Donghua and Lian Song are great friends so that's why her story was well written)
Another character that I remember from his drama is Minsu. Her acting was very good and her story with Ji Heng was great but she ended up dying and was exposed as a woman. And then they added her liking Ji Heng's adopted brother (love triangle). Their story and chemistry all three together was great. I really thought that Ji Heng wasn't going to turn evil at all until she became dependent on Donghua as her master.
I really liked Fengjiu's attitude towards everything at the end besides not wanting to get back with Doghua in ep 55 . She had a unrequited love and she then understood that it was probably not meant to be. After years later she came across Donghua once again. Donghua being unaware of everything ( i get it he hasn't have any love interests at all but seemed to be attached to a red fox and how could he not find her after all these years???)
Their development was slower than I thought and I wanted more of it to be during their realm not from the other lives.
During the Fan Yin Valley his character started to show more interest in Fengjiu. He tried his very best to be apart of her life during the time that they had together.Him chasing after Fengjiu was really funny and straight on although he could be childish which made me cringe all the time. One thing that I didn't like was at the ending, when Donghua sacrificed everything just for Fengjiu, Dilreba couldn't give me the emotions I wanted compared to Donghua who improved on acting.
I feel that the Director couldn't guide her to the right and expressive emotions, when she was told about the reasons why Donghua did what he did, her emotions didn't sell. She just looks like she was guilty that's it no other emotions were coming from this scene.
Music: 5/5 I basically love the music especially Tiger Hu's song for Eternal Love of Dream's opening.
Episode/Rewatch value: 3/5
I really didn't like the Aranya Dream Arc it dragged for more than 10 episodes. I think the production got stuck on how to get the third life into the drama. I couldn't really understand and connect the shadows of them two. I really loved the Fanyin Valley arc because it showed real chemistry between the two. It made me stopped watching and have great excitement for the continuation of their love story. After that we only had a small glimpse of their continuation love story after everything had happened been resolved. I really liked the child of them two although he didn't have enough screen time with Donghua until the end.
I'd probably only watch clips on youtube and not the whole drama itself.
Total Review: 4.2/5 (8.4/10)
Other than that sit back and enjoy drama watching.
