First Impression and Final Review: Legend of Fei
First Impression:
I'd thought that the drama was going pretty slow but I did try my best to enjoy the drama and put all of the stories together until ep 20. First is the production of this drama, it wasn't great at all even though it was given a big budget to use. The editing was horrible an example would be when Xie Yun was locked up in the cell. He used his hairpin once but was three different angled shots that they put together when he'd already pinned his hair up with the hairpin. So this really annoyed me.
Don't mind me I love side stories when it comes to Wuxia/Jianghu dramas. I stopped watching it because the drama was still airing. Then a couple of weeks later I finally continued on to finish this drama.
Story: 2/5
Since is it adaptive from a book, you can’t outrun the original source. I did have high expectations for this drama when the two leads were casted and waited until all of the episodes to come out before resuming to watch it again after ep 20. I’ve been a Chinese Wuxi a drama watcher for the longest time and oh boy did i find some pros and cons in this drama. Starting with the story did they not only sucked at writing the script they couldn’t deliver the whole story as of the story was broken into small pieces and didn’t transition well together at all.
I loved the Snow Breaking Blade technique but one thing is that they didn't show enough action with her family's storyline of the 48 Fortress. They should have focused more on her clan. I know that they showed flash back but I felt as if it wasn't enough for me to get a true understanding of everything. Also there were the other Jianghu clans that were barely mentioned and connected to the whole story. They just didn't know how to put everything together in the end.
Although wuxia is known to have many characters and side story line the production crew didn’t deliver it right. They made me question myself all the time what is happening right now? What’s the overall goals of each character and why do they need to be shown in this drama?
Finally towards the middle to the end we finally get the bigger picture which was “the color of ocean and heaven” I didn’t really wonder what it was but as they revealed it in the story it’s much a disappointment because previous dramas have had something similar. for examples the two books are heavily known to conquer the world but if it falls into the wrong hands then there will be chaos.
I find this main plot to be over repetitive because previously Wuxia dramas that have that is (only naming a few not limited to but) Legend of Condor Heroes, Legend of Hua Bu qi those dramas have an item that will outrun everyone and they try to keep it safe.
Casting: 3/5 & Character Development: 2/5
Next I will be talking about is the casting of this drama; I would say Wang Yibo did fairly a good job compared to the Untamed (which I loved) I really couldn’t get use to his character at the beginning it seemed a little bit too forced in comedic role that I’ve never seen before but I’ll give him a pass. He was able to show his character's love for Zhou Fei and I really saw those looks in his eyes that he'd given to her.
As for Zhao Li Ying she played her character more better towards the middle to the ending. At the very beginning her acting was not here at all and she seemed to be too zoned out and just went with the flow. When she plays Zhou Fei she doesn't give the "I like I have to admit Wang Yi Bo and Zhao Li Ying does not make a good matching pair. It took me a long time to get used to them on screen until she finally jumped the wagon and made the show a little bit better later on.
The other characters were awesome especially Li Sheng, even though they made him not go at marital arts but he's changed for the better and I really liked his character. I'd wish they do him so justices in the story.
I didn't really like Yin Jiang at all his character is too dark and doesn't give us a clear and direct path, yeah he's going to get revenge but at the end he ended up dying and very little focus on him. He just came in and out with nothing.
Music: 4/5
For the music I liked the music probably more than everything else. I could really listen to all of the osts because they fit into the drama itself.
Episodes/Rewatchable Value: 2/5
Episodes were to draggy and long it was unnecessary because there were too mush going on and they ended up ignoring other solutions to get to the point which was from ep 30 to 40.
Would I rewatch this drama? No I would not rewatch this drama because there not really memorable for me to come back to. I don’t even bother to watch clips of the two lead because there isn’t enough chemistry shown until the ending of the drama.
Final Rating: 2.6/5 (5.0/10)
Other than that sit back and enjoy drama watching.
